Chat rooms, discussion forums, and VoIP, instant messaging, and social media platforms have been used to facilitate cyber-enabled fraud, such as the sale of stolen data.  This course introduces participants to cyber-enabled fraud, types of cyber-enabled fraud, and the platforms used in the commission of these types of cybercrime. Participants will gain practical knowledge of the ways perpetrators of cyber-enabled fraud can be identified on these platforms, and the tools that can be used to identify the individuals and groups that commit these cybercrimes, the roles, and associations of individuals within groups, and the tools and tactics they use to commit various forms of cyber-enabled fraud.

 

Instructors: 

Paul J. Kim: Paul J. Kim, JD, MPA, CISSP is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Management for John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is also Managing Director in Deloitte’s Cyber & Strategic Risk practice where he helps global corporations defend against cyber attacks. Over two decades, he has managed complex digital transformation projects, built high performing teams, and responded to the largest cyber breaches in US history. He received his BA from Wesleyan University, MPA from the University of Pennsylvania, JD from Boston University, and US Fulbright Fellowship to South Korea.

Courtney Vasil: Courtney is an Intelligence Analyst III at the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA) located in Pittsburgh, PA. She is a member of the Cyber Financial (Cyfin) Program and interned with FBI Pittsburgh/CIRFU Cyber Division from 2019 to 2020. Courtney has a BS in Cyber Security and a MS in Data Analytics, both from Robert Morris University. She specializes in Business Email Compromise, Check Fraud, Digital Payments Abuse Fraud, and Dark Web Investigations.

Kaleigh Muko:  Kaleigh is an Intelligence Analyst at the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA) in Pittsburgh. She is a member of the Malware and Cyber Threats (MCT) program. Kaleigh received her BA in Cybersecurity from Seton Hill University and specializes in dark web investigations, ransomware, moniker attribution, and social engineering schemes.
